Close on heels of authorities of Gazipur-based apparel manufacturing unit, Diganta Sweaters, declaring dearth of work orders and announcing layoffs on account of the same for the upcoming months of November and December, workers engaged in the said factory fearing job loss demonstrated in front of the unit.
As per media reports, factory authorities, in a notice issued reportedly assured the workers they would be called back to report to work as they expect a new work order by 26 December while also assuring the workers of their due payments.
However, fearing that they might lose their jobs and may not even get the due payments, the workers reportedly assembled at the factory premises on Thursday and raised slogans.
This necessitated the police to intervene, who reportedly talked to the factory authorities and the workers to diffuse the tense situation.
As per officer in-charge (OC) of Bason Police Station, the factory authorities keeping with the rules have agreed to pay workers their basic salary during the layoff period.
