Innovative technology and front-end solutions provider, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA) has developed a first-hand low cost Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) RFID tag for fashion, apparel and accessories industry.
The RFID tag – WT-A522L is of the size of a typical shirt collar stay and almost unnoticeable even in the thinnest of garments. The tag is made from transparent materials, is washable, and provides protection to fashion designers and retailers against frauds. The fashion garment rental enterprises will also benefit by using this tag to precisely track their garments and accessories without individually reading a bar code. “The ability to include RFID tracking in high fashion apparel will provide positive confirmation of an items authenticity and also help reduce incidents of so called ‘price arbitrage’ where items are returned for full price by simply exchanging the retail price tag,” explained Dan Dalton, Senior Director of New Product Development, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. The washable WT-A522L can be sewn into hems, seams, or under the manufacturer’s labels. An adhesive version of the tag will also be made available for shoes, handbags, and accessories by the end of first quarter of 2016.

Fujitsu’s UHF RFID tags allow bulk reading of several articles simultaneously in seconds, with a reading range of more than 6 feet, which eventually reduces the labour costs compared to typical bar codes systems. The tags conform to the EPCglobal Gen2 specification, measure 55mm X 10mm X 0.3mm, and are suitable for typical home washing, dry-cleaning, or ironing. The WT-A552L tag will be showcased at the National Retail Federation’s Annual 2016 Convention & Expo, to be held in New York from January 17 to 19, 2016.
FFNA caters to industry-specific needs of the manufacturing, retail, healthcare, government, education, financial services, and enterprise and communications sectors throughout North America.
