3D Systems, a company which has been working with complex printing technology for the past 25 years, is ready to release ‘Cube’: an at-home 3-D printer that will enable people to design and print shoes. The printer will be available later this year, will cost $ 1299 and come with Wi-Fi, 25 free files, and the plastic, Lego-like material.
Young designers are already making use of the technology in creating shoes, bags, and jewellery and Cathy Lewis, Vice-President for global marketing at 3D Systems is confident of this new launch, as she elaborates, “With this printer you have the complete freedom of creation and unlimited geometry; you add to that the durability and lightweight capability of 3-D printing, and all of a sudden you have the ability to create fashion.”
