Union Minister of State for Textiles (I/C), Santosh Kumar Gangwar recently inaugurated Indian Handloom Exhibition at National Crafts Museum, New Delhi, India. The exhibition will showcase an exquisite collection of Indian Handloom products.
The Minister in his inaugural speech, said, “It is the need of the hour to produce good quality defect-free handloom fabrics with good colour fastness that do not contain harmful dyes. The product range also needs to be widened to cater to the needs of the youth, the largest population segment of our country.”

The exhibition features the latest series of Handloom products by National Centre for Textile Design (NCTD). The series named ‘Indian Handloom: Tradition & Trend’ presents a trendy garment segment like stoles and shawls, and home furnishing products made up of handloom fabrics.

Twenty Weavers’ Service Centres from across the country have been involved in preparing the designs while reputed designers serving as members of the Implementation Committee of NCTD have contributed their expertise in selecting designs for the collection as per the market trend.
In addition to the thematic collection, an attempt has been made to reintroduce ‘Vishwakarma’, which was made in late seventies and was a huge hit in India as well as abroad.
