With growing influence of Star-trek and Alien movies on our lives, many interpretations have been made regarding the fashion and textiles, getting inspired from which, researchers have begun the trial testing on a textile developed specifically for space travel. The fabric, appropriately named Spacetex, is going to be the first that will be carried to the International Space Station, and put to the test in a buoyant environment.
Lack of gravity influences clothing more than we think! For instance, when a garment is worn close to the skin, body heat and sweat travel differently. The fabric must be specifically engineered keeping in mind that the body can properly cool itself down. An additional problem that scientists hope to solve with this textile is the breakdown of bone and muscle tissue, as if the weightless environment is extended for a longer period of time, the lack of physical exertion can quickly cause the muscles to begin to shrivel.
