Not losing focus of the challenges the industry is facing in the changing milieu while also ensuring that sustainable development continues, Bangladesh Government has decided to conduct a skill development programme for around 15 lakh garment workers in the country, as per media reports.
An eight-member ‘Training Conducting Committee’, headed by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Director General, has reportedly been formed to find the way to conduct the training programme for the garment workers.
The other members of the committee are from the Textile Cell of the Commerce Ministry, the Department of Labour, Labour and Employment Ministry, Department of Textile, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), and Deputy Director (Compliance and Monitoring Cell) of the EPB.
The committee has been formed recently as per the RMG Training Policy 2019 which will conduct training-related activities and select the training providing institutions while also determining the process for enlisting garment workers for training.
