In what could be termed an encouraging development for the garment makers of Bangladesh, who have long been seeking extension of moratorium facility on loans taken under the stimulus packages, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has, reportedly, expressed consent to extend moratorium facility for six more months.
This was maintained in a media report, which underlined that Sheikh Hasina came up with her consent for extending the moratorium period during her recent meeting with a three-member garment makers’ delegation even as it cited garment manufacturer and panel leader of Sammilita Parishad, Faruque Hossain, who, reportedly, confirmed the development and maintained a formal notification will be issued in this regard soon.
As per the report, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, who is also the president of Sammilita Parishad, led the three-member delegation, consisting of SA Mannan Kochi, incumbent Vice-President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and former president of the BGMEA Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, apart from the Commerce Minister.
