Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh, especially those into manufacturing of footwear and leather products, are reportedly doing good business lately as Bangladesh-made shoes are dominating the local market.
As per media reports, more than 500 shoe manufacturing units in and around the capital Dhaka are making shoes in large quantities and are doing decent business despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are getting good orders from local market; our product is also cheap and quality is at par with customers’ expectations, reportedly, claimed a local shoe factory owner speaking to the media while another said that they have been facing several challenges since last 6 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the situation is changing now.
We are hoping to make some good profits in coming days, claimed Shakil, the shoe factory owner, to the media.
It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been encouraging people to use local products, which some experts believe is also playing a big role in more and more people buying shoes and other products made by the local entities.
