In a move that is expected to benefit Bangladesh garment exporters significantly in terms of reducing logistics cost and lead time while supplying goods to their Indian buyers, the Indian Government recently allowed garment makers from the neighbouring country to send their export consignments in closed containers, which usually return empty through rail route after delivering Indian export goods to Bangladesh.
This was underlined in media reports, according to which, previously, containers going from India to Bangladesh by rail were returned empty even as Bangladeshi companies had expressed interest to use such empty containers to export their goods to India.
This step is expected to benefit Bangladesh garment exporters significantly as India is increasingly becoming a very prospective apparel export destination for Bangladesh.
