The high street retail empire Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM), which was in news for its alleged failure to pay up Bangladesh suppliers’ pending dues, is now reportedly mulling to file lawsuit against the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), subsequent to reportedly being held responsible for owing manufacturers around £27 million in unpaid bills.
It reportedly claimed that that the £26.7 million as recently quoted in the media is an ‘old figure’ while reportedly adding that it is ‘completely baseless’ and ‘without any merit’.
According to reports that appeared in certain section of the western media (including Retail Gazette, Drapers, FashionNetwork.com, etc.), the EWM Board is due to meet soon to discuss and deliberate whether to launch legal action.
The company has reportedly informed the apex garment makers’ body BGMEA that these old figures are completely baseless besides writing to the BGMEA President Dr. Rubana Huq in which EWM Group Chairman John Herring reportedly underlined that such allegations are jeopardising the company.
The letter further reportedly added that recent accusations pertaining to remaining outstanding debt, made in the media, are “categorically false”.
