Chattogram Port has set a new operational milestone by achieving zero waiting time for vessels, a development that strengthens Bangladesh’s maritime competitiveness at a crucial moment for global supply chains. The port handled 2.849 million TEUs (1 TEU equals a 20-foot container) in the latest reporting period, reflecting a 12.64% rise in total cargo throughput.
According to port authorities, enhanced berth productivity, improved yard management, and more coordinated digital operations among stakeholders have sharply reduced vessel congestion. They stated that these measures have helped ensure faster turnaround times and smoother cargo flow.
Exporters and importers observed that the improvement is reducing lead times and lowering logistics costs, especially as timely shipments remain vital for the apparel and textile industries. They emphasised that such gains are essential for maintaining Bangladesh’s reputation as a reliable sourcing hub.
Industry analysts commented that if Chattogram Port can maintain its zero-waiting-time performance, it will significantly strengthen the country’s trade efficiency and support the rising demand for containerised cargo.
Chattogram Port plays an indispensable role in Bangladesh’s export economy, handling the vast majority of the country’s outbound shipments. Its efficiency is particularly critical for the ready-made garment (RMG) industry, which relies on predictable logistics and quick vessel turnaround to meet tight delivery schedules in global markets.
