
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, in a recent virtual meeting, called upon the country’s ambassadors in United Kingdom and Europe to explore new destinations for ‘Made in Bangladesh’ products protecting the apparel export markets during the coronavirus pandemic.
He also urged the envoys — as per Ministry of Foreign Affairs, envoys from Switzerland, UK, Austria, Italy, Germany, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, Spain and Greece attended the meeting – to be alert about any negative campaign against Bangladesh and play their due role in keeping the trend of export earning uninterrupted.
Taking part in the meeting, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Dr. Rubana Huq, informed the envoys the garment manufacturing industry of Bangladesh has witnessed order cancellation/suspension to the tune of US $ 3.18 billion on account of COVID-19, thereby adversely affecting at least 1,150 RMG units and 2.28 million workers.
She, thus, called upon them seeking their support in addressing the issues facing the RMG sector, to which the envoys reportedly pledged all required help.
