With just days to go for the all-important biennial election of the Bangladesh’s apex garment traders’ body (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association BGMEA), the contesting panels, Forum and Sammilita Parishad, have raised allegations of violation of the electoral code of conducts against each other.
This was maintained in media reports, which stated that Abdus Salam Murshedy, who is the chief election coordinator of Sammilita Parishad, has, reportedly, sent a letter to the BGMEA Election Chief Commissioner alleging Dr. Rubana Huq (that current BGMEA President) has influenced the election process while on the other hand, director candidate from Forum, Khan Monirul Alam Shuvo on his part, reportedly, stated that the Forum has officially complained to the BGMEA election board for repeated violations of the election code by Sammilita Parishad candidates.
As reported, Abdus Salam Murshedy has, reportedly, underlined that Dr. Rubana Huq, in an attempt to influence the election process, has sent gifts to the voters in the name of the BGMEA President even as Monirul Alam Shuvo, on his part, reportedly, said, “The complaints have been filed on 24 and 29 March against Sammilita Parishad panel leader Faruque Hassan, Asif Ashraf and Shaidullah Azim as they have been sending gifts to voters ensuring them as candidates for the next election,” even as Sammilita Parishad media coordinator Fazlee Shamim Ehsan has, reportedly, refuted the allegations levelled by Shuvo while, reportedly, confirming the allegations levelled by Abdus Salam Murshedy against Dr. Rubana Huq, who on her part separately stated, “As BGMEA President, I can congratulate our members on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary and the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence…I just sent the crest as BGMEA President, not as a candidate of next election. The intention is clear in this case.”
