
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has elected SM Mannan (Kochi), chairman of Seha Design Ltd., as its president for the 2024–2026 term. Syed Nazrul Islam, managing director of Well Designers Ltd., has been voted as its first vice president.
Additionally, Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, the managing director of Designtex Knitwear Ltd., has been elected as senior vice president of the leading trade association in Bangladesh’s garment industry. The names were announced on Thursday by the BGMEA Election Board.
Other newly elected vice presidents are —Tusuka Fashions Ltd Chairman Arshad Jamal (Dipu), Sadma Fashion Wear Ltd Managing Director Md Nasir Uddin (finance); Misami Garments Ltd Managing Director Miran Ali, 4A Yarn Dyeing Limited Managing Director Abdullah Hil Rakib, and HKC Apparels Ltd Managing Director Rakibul Alam Chowdhury.
According to BGMEA sources, the new office bearers will assume leadership on 6th April, when the current board ends. Of the 35 directors, nine will be elected from the Chattogram region and 26 will be chosen from the Dhaka region.
The capital’s BGMEA complex hosted the biannual election earlier on 9th March. Sammilito Parishad and Forum were the two panels that participated in the poll.
Under the direction of SM Mannan, Sammilito Parishad secured votes for 35 out of 35 directors. The Forum panel led by Faisal Samad did not win any director positions in the election.
Under the two panels, a total of seventy individuals ran for thirty-five director posts. There were about 89.18 per cent of votes cast in the regions of Chittagong and Dhaka.
Approximately 90.5 per cent of the votes voted in the city were cast at the Dhaka centre, where 1,839 of the 2,032 total votes were cast. Additionally, 387 of the 462 votes, or approximately 83.4 per cent of the total, were cast in Chattogram regions.
