
Even as the day of graduating from a least developing country (LDC) is getting close, Bangladesh is, reportedly, pursuing Maldives to sign preferential trade agreement (PTA) and bilateral investment promotion and protection agreement with it (Bangladesh).
Media reports maintained this while adding that Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen had on 17 March (Wednesday) called upon the visiting Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is in Bangladesh, to participate in the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Foreign Minister, reportedly, requested the Maldivian President to import apparel products from Bangladesh apart from agricultural products, medicines, jute goods, etc., while also discussing about different bilateral issues including the movement of ships between Chittagong and Male even as the both sides, reportedly, also laid emphasis on elevating the commercial ties between Maldives and Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Foreign Minister also, reportedly, sought cooperation of Maldives with launching coastal waterway between the two countries to boost tourism on both sides while adding that more and more Maldivian students can pursue higher studies in Bangladesh, and went on to add that Bangladesh can provide skill development trainings to the Maldivian citizens as well.
