The Chittagong Port of Bangladesh, which is responsible for handling the bulk of the country’s imports and export including the all-important apparel shipments, has decided to officially invite larger ships to dock in the port.
This is as per reports which added the concerned port authority – Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has recently issued an official notification in this regard calling upon foreign shippers to send cargo carriers up to 200-metre length with a draught of 10 metres to port even as this latest development marks a significant milestone for the Chittagong Port.
This has also made the concerned stakeholders happy who have long been advocating for larger ships to berth at the port with the aim to address the issue of cargo congestion (at the port) while also reducing external trade costs.
“Bigger vessels will carry in more cargoes and containers, which will lessen the cost significantly,” in the meanwhile underlined the Chairman of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association Syed Mohammad Arif, speaking to the media.
