On a declining trend for the past two fiscal years, Bangladesh’s garment exports to Japan crossed the billion-dollar mark in fiscal year (FY) 2021-22 again.
According to reports, Bangladesh exported apparel items worth US $ 1.098 billion to Japan in FY ’22, registering over 16 per cent growth even if apparel exports from Bangladesh to Japan for the first time crossed the million dollar mark in FY ’19 (US $ 1.091 billion) while in FY ’21, it fetched US $ 944.82 million.
Speaking to the media, Bangladesh garment makers, reportedly, attributed the rise to Japan’s ‘China-plus policy’ and the so-called leniency in its rules of origin.
Industry insiders attributed this apparel export growth in Japan to relentless efforts put in by the garment makers along with the policy and fiscal support provided by the Government for exports to non-traditional destinations.
