Poor logistics and clearance services ports and highways are leading Bangladesh to lose out on least 20 per cent of its export potential.
This was claimed by the experts recently at a discussion titled ‘Logistics Sector of Bangladesh-Opportunities and Concerns’, held recently in Dhaka.
Taking part in the same, Chairman of private research firm Policy Exchange, Masrur Reaz, reportedly, maintained with improved logistics, Bangladesh’s exports could have been US $ 63 billion in FY ’22 rather than US $ 52 billion that it had to settle for.
Reaz further added if the time taken to secure clearance for goods at local ports is shortened by a day, overall exports would increase by 7.4 per cent while with improved domestic logistics facilities, such as roads and warehouses, and more inland container depots (ICD) set up in industrial areas like Narayanganj, Gazipur, Dhaka and Chittagong, exports could grow by another 7.4 per cent.
