The Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) on Wednesday announced record export earnings of US $ 7.45 billion in the 2024–25 fiscal year, with approximately US $ 1 billion generated through direct exports.
The figures were disclosed at the inaugural ceremony of the 15th GAPEXPO, which opened at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka.
The opening ceremony was attended by several senior political, regulatory and industry figures, including BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, National Board of Revenue Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan, BGMEA Acting President Selim Rahman, BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem and Bangladesh Association of Banks Chairman Abdul Hai Sarker.
Industry leaders present at the event said the garments accessories and packaging sector had emerged as a critical pillar supporting Bangladesh’s primary export industry, the ready-made garments (RMG) sector. They noted that the sector currently employs more than 700,000 workers nationwide.
BGAPMEA officials stated that the association now represents more than 2,000 member factories, reflecting the rapid expansion and increasing industrial depth of the sector.
They further said Bangladesh had achieved significant progress in import substitution. According to the association, accessories were previously sourced largely from overseas markets, resulting in higher costs and extended lead times. However, the domestic industry is now capable of meeting the full internal demand of the export-oriented garment sector, reducing reliance on imports and strengthening supply chain efficiency.
