TUV Rheinland India, a subsidiary of TUV Rheinland Group (Germany), has partnered with Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) to boost the quality of Indian handicrafts.
Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director of EPCH and Charan Singh, Regional Director of TUV Rheinland India recently signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bengaluru.
On the occasion, Kumar said, “TUV Rheinland India, one the leading service provider in Testing, Training, Inspection, Consulting and Certification Industry (TIC), will assist us to meet the international compliance standards.”
Under the agreement signed, TUV Rheinland and EPCH will spread awareness on supply chain standardisation, processing, product certification and testing amongst the Indian handicraft exporters.
Both the organisations will also conduct regular workshops and seminars to meet the goal set.
“This association will not only enhance the skills of exporters but will also uplift the image of Indian handicraft export sector globally,” added Rakesh.
Additionally, testing laboratories will also be opened in the country as part of the agreement. These labs will provide testing services to the handicrafts exporters at nominal rates.
Thomas Fuhrmann, MD, TUV Rheinland India commented, “We as a partner will support EPCH to make Indian handicrafts more superior and preferable globally. The objective behind this initiative of EPCH is to feature India on the list of authentic suppliers in handicrafts sector in the global market.”
Skilled manpower and modern machinery are still a major concern for the Indian handicrafts exporters. On the other hand, compliance-related issues from the buyer’s side have always affected the margins.
The initiative taken by EPCH and TUV Rheinland India is expected to help the handicraft industry in combatting the compliance issues and secure growth.
