
Workers, employed in Bangladesh readymade garment manufacturing sector, will get 3-day holiday for the upcoming festival of Eid-ul-Azha, expected to be celebrated on 31 July or 1 August depending on the sighting of the moon, and they cannot extend their leave further.
Garment workers’ Eid holiday is also for 3 days, underlined Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal after a meeting on Thursday to decide wages, festival allowances and holidays for the workers, adding further that the holidays will not be extended further.
As to the wage and bonus of the garment workers, Asaduzzaman maintained that workers have received their salary for the month of June already, adding a decision on wage for July and festival bonus is expected soon as stakeholders will sit with the officials of the concerned ministry to discuss and decide on the same.
Office bearers of the trade bodies, including from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), are expected to meet officials of Labour Ministry on Sunday to discuss and deliberate on the same, as per media reports.
