
American clothing company PVH Corp., which owns brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, Arrow, Calvin Klein, IZOD, Warner’s, Olga, True & Co. and Geoffrey Beene, has partnered with charitable foundation The Power of Nutrition, to provide essential nutrition services to the women workers in the readymade garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh.
Welcoming the initiative undertaken by PVH, President of the apex garment makers’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Faruque Hassan said discussions were ongoing to introduce another programme with support from five partner brands including PVH while adding that Bangladesh Government is also implementing a project titled, ‘Working Lactating Mother Assistance Fund Programme’ in the apparel factories of the country.
According to media reports, the PVH-The Power of Nutrition collaboration forms part of a four-year national programme.
This initiative is expected to reach around 1 million female garment workers in Bangladesh’s districts, where rates of undernutrition are the highest.
