After the recent tripartite meeting of union leaders, Government officials and factory owners at the Srama Bhaban in capital Dhaka, State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian has underlined that apparel workers would have to be paid salaries and festival allowances by 10 May so that they can enjoy the holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones.
The Minister also, reportedly, asked factory owners to stagger holidays zone-wise so that there was no crisis of transportation and garment workers are able to reach their respective villages maintaining the social distancing even as health experts have cautioned that any major relaxation of ongoing restrictions on movement may aggravate the transmission of the COVID-19.
The Minister too underlined that it would be difficult to contain the spread of the virus if workers were allowed to leave for holidays in one go.
