In a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday, the Garment Sramik Oikya Forum, a prominent garment workers’ rights organisation, called for the immediate release of its Ashulia thana committee president, Khorshed Alam, and workers from Beximco garment factory. The group also urged the Government to address ongoing crises within the factories.
Mushrefa Mishu, president of the organisation, outlined a five-point demand directed at the interim Government. These demands include the release of detained leaders, withdrawal of what they described as baseless cases against them, and the implementation of a rationing system for garment workers to access essential commodities at lower prices.
Key figures at the press conference included General Secretary Shahidul Islam Sabuj, Assistant General Secretary Amena Akter Asha, Ashulia thana unit General Secretary Zaglul Pasha, and Ratna Begum, the wife of the arrested Khorshed Alam. The leaders emphasised the urgency of their demands to ensure the rights and welfare of garment workers in the region.
