Workers of a readymade garment factory blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur on Monday morning to demand unpaid wages for the past three months, causing traffic disruptions in the area.
The protest began around 9 am when employees of Rowa Fashions Limited gathered at Bhogra Chowdhurybari, halting movement along the busy highway. Following the demonstration, several nearby factories declared a general holiday as a precautionary measure.
The protesting workers claimed that the factory authorities had failed to pay their salaries for the last three months. They alleged that when they arrived for work this morning, they discovered that the factory had been sold to new owners, complicating the payment process. The workers vowed to continue their protest until they receive their due wages.
Wahiduzzaman Raju, additional superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police, stated that law enforcement officials are working to control the situation. He also confirmed that a general holiday has been declared in several neighboring factories in response to the incident.
