Completing 25 years in garments exports, Jaipur based company Poddar International is going for major expansion, investing in 2,000 sq. metres of land with a target of producing one lakh pieces in next three to four years. At the moment, the company has 50 machines in-house and mostly depends on job workers as monthly production is about 25,000 pieces. To overcome the challenges of outsourcing and also control cost, the plan is to do most of the things completely in-house. Roshan Poddar, CEO of the company informed Apparel Online, “When we are working with fabricators or job workers, sometimes there are quality issues, coordination is not an easy job with them, besides cost control is also important so we decided to go for our own factory in which initially we will install 200 machines and later increase to achieve our target of monthly one lakh pieces. We will invest at least Rs. 6 crore which can be enhanced if required.”
The company is also planning to add new markets especially Germany because Roshan feels that in Europe, Germany is much more stable compared to Spain and Italy, and it is not a low price market. Having FOBs between US $ 3 to 25 it is exporting into many countries with different kinds of buyers, like in the US and UK it has wholesalers, importers while in Italy and Israel it works with chains stores. Along with ladies dresses it also produces men’s shirts with multiple work and value addition.
