The Indian city of Pune is all set to get the first distribution centre of the global furniture giant Ikea by the end of this year. The centre will be spread over an area of around one lakh square feet and will take care of supply to the upcoming Ikea stores in India.
“We will be opening our Pune distribution centre by November-December and expect the costs to be on the lower end with the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax that has streamlined the logistics sector,” reportedly said Patrik Antoni, Deputy Country Manager, Ikea India.
The company opted for Pune to set up its first warehouse in the country because of its strategic location. It will help the retailer to cater to the needs of its stores in the country at comparatively cheaper costs.
Apart from the warehouse, the home furnishing retail giant has also announced to set up a centralised call centre in Hyderabad to take care of all the online and offline sales requirements, after sales services, service bookings, social media engagement and the like for the Indian stores.
The call centre will be located on the top floor of Ikea’s upcoming Hyderabad store which is expected to be open by early next year.
