The fact that the existing apparel manufacturing hubs around capital city of Dhaka are almost saturated now, is known to all. Given the lack of space and overwhelming flow of people in search of livelihood to Dhaka, there’s no option but look at other areas, in order to let the industry grow further.
Keeping the same in perspective, the metropolitan city of Rajshahi is now gearing up to attract entrepreneurs who want to set up new garment manufacturing and other industrial units so as to provide employment to the people of this city, which is located on the north bank of the Padma River, close to the Bangladesh-India border.
“We are committed to expanding industrial area to cut the existing burden of unemployment here. RCC would establish more than 50 garments and other industries in Rajshahi city in the next five years.” – AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Mayor, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC)
Liton said this while addressing a project-launching ceremony of non-government organisation Volunteer Multipurpose Women Social Welfare Society (VMWSWS), which organised the function aiming to present the salient feature of its Alor Thikana project along with its aims, objectives and implementation strategy.
