At the recently concluded Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2013, The Woolmark Company introduced Rajesh Pratap Singh as the first Indian wool ambassador. Inspired by The Wool Lab Autumn Winter 2013-14, the seasonal guide to the best wool production of the world and to the most inspiring trends, the designer impressed the audience using and unveiling the beauty and class of Merino Wool.
This collaboration with the designer confirms the commitment of the Woolmark Company to talent and creativity. As the global authority on Merino wool, Woolmark actively supported the promising designer to promote and give the luxury fibre the desired mileage and popularity it needed.
Rajesh Pratap Singh has shaped through the years a signature style, inspired by Indian aesthetics. His magnificent creations stand unmatched due to their faultlessly clean lines, tailoring details and contemporary silhouettes, appealing to an international audience. The work by the designer epitomised simplicity, modernity and heritage. On this collaboration, the designer said “Merino wool is an amazing fibre and I have loved using it in my collection. The partnership with The Woolmark Company is a challenging commitment and I am honoured to promote this unique natural fibre.”
Taking inspiration from the traditional tailoring of the past and reinventing it with a modern twist, the collection exploited the versatility of Merino. Tweeds, knits and felted wool all combined to present an impeccable tailored style. Structured pieces like blazers were paired with dhotis to complete the traditional-western twist. Tailored pant-suits for women and clean cut tunic coats with front pocket details were winter refreshing.
Happy with the collection, Stuart McCullough, CEO of The Woolmark Company said “This is the first time we have associated with an Indian designer, naming him as the wool Ambassador for the country. We believe it’s a great opportunity for Rajesh, who is one of the finest designers in the country, boosting in-depth knowledge of the fibre. He is a perfect ambassador for Merino wool and we look forward to an enduring relationship”.
