Retail industry employment in the USA increased by 39,400 jobs in January 2017 over December 2016, making up nearly a fifth of the 227,000 jobs added to the nation’s economy. Out of these 39,400 jobs, clothing sector witnessed gains by 17,000 jobs in the first month of the year.
National Retail Federation’s (NRF) Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz, said, “Certainly the surge in employment is an indication of strength in the economy but average hourly earnings have been quite volatile and are accelerating more slowly.”

According to NRF, on a three-month-average, retail jobs have increased by 16,600 positions over last year. On a year-over-year basis, retail jobs have increased by 161,000 positions.
The country has witnessed this surge primarily because President Donald Trump emphasized on ‘Made in America’ products after he took oath for the seat and since then there has been a massive momentum recorded in employment sector buoyed by in-house manufacturing set-ups.
It’s worth mentioning here the retail numbers exclude automobile dealers, gasoline stations and restaurants.
