Target, the second-largest discount store retailer in the United States, has launched a sensory-friendly apparel line.
The new collection, launched under Target’s own label, Cat & Jack, will cater to differently abled kids.
The idea behind the launching of this kind of collection is to bring ease and convenience to the lives of these special kids.
The collection has been designed after thorough research. Target interviewed parents and organisations working for the ‘special kids with special needs’ to know the issues they face, such as what they look for when they shop, how long it takes them to get dressed and whether they shop online.
“We learned that sensory-friendly apparel can mean different things for different people. For this collection, we decided to start with our core tees and leggings, and address guests’ most common requests, like removing tags and embellishments that can irritate the skin. We also added more ease through the hip and a higher rise in our leggings to fit with diapers, if needed, for older kids,” reportedly averred Stacey Monsen, Designer, Target.
The pieces in the assortment feature heat-transferred labels in place of tags, flat seams, and one-dimensional graphic tees. All the pieces have been designed to minimise the discomfort when in contact with the skin. This new apparel line has been kept in the price range of US $ 4.50-7.
The retailer’s debut in this underserved market is in line with its philosophy of making sure all the guests feel welcomed at Target stores.
