French fashion house Guy Laroche has replaced American designer Adam Andrascik with Richard René as its new Creative Director. The switch has come quite early as Andrascik had been with the house since 2015 only.
The new Creative Head René is known for his clean silhouettes and strong, muted colour palettes. He will present the first edit of his work for the luxury house on September 27 during the upcoming Paris Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2018 shows.
René’s assortment will consist of less than 20 full looks and use an exclusive colour palette of black and white. The designer will draw references to his own previous work as well as the founder Laroche’s with movie stars like Mireille Darc for the Spring/Summer 2018 season.
Speaking of the collection that will be inspired from the Sixties and Seventies era in French cinema, René said, “It’s classic with a twist but very simple. It’s all about cut and material. In general, I prefer taking away rather than adding.”
René started his career at Hermès and moved on to Jean Paul Gaultier to work on couture collections. He later became the designer for men’s collections and women’s pre-collections for the fashion house.
The designer was most recently heading the luxury swimwear label Vilebrequin and has also produced collections under his namesake line for six years. His own line was also quite illustrious and periodically showcased within Paris’s Couture Week calendar from 2004 to 2010.
