Addressing a recent webinar titled, ‘Challenges in the E-commerce sector: What should be done?’, organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue or CPD, stakeholders have maintained the existing legal framework is sufficient to ensure discipline in the country’s e-commerce sector, which has been in news recently due to the so-called malpractices by some entities, even as they underlined there is no need for a separate regulatory body.
“The DNCRP (Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection) needs to be made more effective; it needs to enforce regulations strictly…We do not want a new regulatory body,” reportedly, maintained Chief Executive Officer of e-commerce platform AjkerDeal (AjkerDeal.com is said to be the largest online shopping marketplace in Bangladesh), AKM Fahim Mashroor, while CEO of Chaldal.com (Chaldal.com is an online supermarket that, reportedly, witnessed tremendous growth amidst the COVID-19 pandemic), Waseem Alim, on his part, reportedly, underlined that it will be more effective to increase surveillance through the existing agencies of the Government even as he added, “We have built the trust of customers over the years and the ongoing incidents have dealt a blow to us…”
Participating in the same, Executive Director of CPD Fahmida Khatun, reportedly, said that the e-commerce sector has a huge potential for job creation and economic growth.
