At a time when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has issued directives at a cabinet meeting to regulate the e-commerce sector in Bangladesh, a Dhaka court recently placed three people, including the owner of e-commerce platform e-orange, Sonia Mehzabin, and the company’s Chief Operating Officer Aman Ullah on one-day remand in relation to a fraud case filed with the police.
Media reports maintained this adding after the investigation officer of the case submitted a petition seeking a 5-day remand of the accused, Dhaka Chief Metroploitan Magistrate Court Judge Shahidul Islam passed the order, placing Sonia Mehzabin, her husband Masukur Rahman and the Chief Operating Officer to one-day remand even as the court also rejected bail petition submitted by the defence lawyer.
It may be mentioned here that on 16 August, an aggrieved customer of e-orange filed a fraud case with Gulshan police in presence of 37 other customers who testified against the accused, following which the Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abubakar Siddique’s court sent Sonia and her husband to jail rejecting their bail prayers when they surrendered, while subsequently on 18 August, the company’s Chief Operating Officer was also arrested.
Later, on 7 October, a college student, reportedly, filed another case with the police as he, his brother and a friend, reportedly, didn’t receive products from eorange.shop even after paying Taka 12.0 million.
