
Debenhams, British multinational retailer, has roped in Amazon Fashion Europe’s Vice President Sergio Bucher, as its new CEO, effective October 2016. He will be replacing Michael Sharp, who is stepping down from his post of Debenhams’ CEO on June 24, 2016.
Commenting on Bucher’s appointment, Ian Cheshire, Chairman – Debenhams averred, “Following a rigorous recruitment process with some exceptional quality candidates, Sergio’s wealth of e-commerce expertise, international experience and clear leadership qualities stood out. I am confident we have the best possible person to realise the potential of ‘new Debenhams’ as a leading international multi-channel retailer with a bright future.”

Bucher has been associated with Amazon from past thirteen years. Prior to Amazon, he served as the General Manager – Retail and E-Commerce, Puma, and worked at top retail positions with retail giants like Nike and Inditex.
It will be interesting to see what new strategies Bucher will bring in to get Debenhams back on profit making track which has appeared to be a difficult task for the retailer in the recent times.
