Brandix, Sri Lankan based apparel exporter, has laid the foundation stone for training centre in collaboration with the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC). It is located within the Malabe campus of CINEC, one of the largest non-state sector higher education institutions in the country.
Named Brandix – CINEC Centre of Excellence (BCCE), the centre has been set up with the aim to overcome the challenge of shortage of skilled labour. It will initially cater to the associates and supervisory grade employees of the Brandix.
The centre will impart joint training programmes and research for the apparel sector. The comprehensive curriculum consisting of learning and development modules has been thoroughly designed in collaboration with CINEC. It will help them nurture their technical and leadership skills and prepare them to take on industry challenges.
“The focus of this initiative is to shape well-rounded individuals, following through on our commitment to create and foster inspired people,” said Ishan Dantanarayana, Chief People Officer of the Brandix Group.
Once the trainees complete their courses, programme will further be supported with Vocational Technical Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA), to align it with nationally-accepted NVQ qualification equivalent to a Diploma.
It is worth mentioning here that the apparel exporter has earlier inked two Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VTA.
While one MoU aims to create an NVQ Level 5 equivalent qualification for garment technicians, the other agreement states that Brandix will identify early school leavers and train them to become Industrial Sewing Machine Operators in a three-month training programme.
