Bangladesh has stepped up efforts to attract Japanese industrial investment, with its Ambassador to Japan, Md Daud Ali, urging the AEON Group to establish manufacturing facilities in the country and participate in technology transfer initiatives.
The appeal was made during a meeting held on 21st November 2025 at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo between the ambassador and a four-member AEON delegation. The group had recently visited Bangladesh to assess business prospects and review the country’s shifting investment landscape.
Ambassador Md Daud Ali emphasised that Japanese investment in manufacturing and technological collaboration would deliver long-term economic gains for both nations. He said such engagement would help strengthen Bangladesh’s industrial base, support export diversification, and deepen bilateral economic ties beyond traditional trade activities.
The AEON delegation expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s infrastructure development, citing improvements in transport links, power supply, and the expansion of industrial zones and special economic areas. They also conveyed an interest in exploring investment prospects in sectors with strong domestic demand and growing export potential.
Industry observers note that if AEON expands from retail sourcing and distribution into factory-based production in Bangladesh, it could open new regional supply chain connections. With ongoing work on special economic zones, improved logistics, and increased policy support for foreign direct investment, Bangladesh is positioning itself as a cost-competitive and strategically located manufacturing hub for Japanese firms seeking to diversify their Asian production base.
