The UK-based apparel retailer Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM) has been sued by as many as four Bangladesh apparel companies for not paying Taka 59.8 million in dues for exported items.
Media reports claimed this adding the four companies, Knit Bazaar (Pvt) Limited, Designtex Knitwear Limited, Bottoms Gallery (Pvt) Limited and Designtex Fashions Limited, jointly filed a case with Joint District Judge’s Court in Dhaka on 14 March alleging EWM was trying to evade payment on the pretext its subsidiary company Peacock, which imported the products from Bangladesh, is bankrupt.
Reports further stated Peacock procured the products from the four Bangladesh companies around one and half years ago before being declared bankrupt, only to be, reportedly, taken over by Purepay and Anglo Global later.
