The apparel import of Japan in the first half of 2021 has declined in value terms but has increased marginally in weights…
The country imported garments worth 1,186.16 billion yen (US $ 10.76 billion) in Jan.-Jun. ’21 period as compared to 1,192.03 billion yen (US $ 10.81 billion) in the same period of 2020, noting 0.49 per cent yearly downfall.
In terms of weight, Japanese apparel import upped by around 2 per cent to 2,911.54 million kg in the mentioned period as against 2,855.13 million kg in the corresponding period of 2020.
The share of knitted garments in overall imports was 603.10 billion yen – US $ 5.47 billion, while woven garments constituted 583.05 billion yen (US $ 5.29 billion).
Woven clothing import has continued its negative trend and fell by 7.22 per cent in values, while the decline noted in weight-wise shipment was 4.81 per cent.
On the other hand, knitted clothing import has witnessed exactly opposite results as the import values of knitted garments increased by 7 per cent and weight-wise shipment registered 4.36 per cent yearly growth.
