
Considering the fallouts of the coronavirus pandemic and to help the apparel industry tackle the existing challenges and move ahead, Faruque Hassan, the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged the Commerce Ministry to simplify export procedures for the readymade garment (RMG) sector of the country.
According to reports, the BGMEA President made this request during his recent meeting with Tapan Kanti Ghosh, the Commerce Secretary.
During the meeting Faruque, reportedly, maintained that RMG units were struggling still to survive and recover from the losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic even as he stated that considering the critical situation the industry is currently in, it would help the sector to make a turnaround if export procedures are simplified while the Commerce Secretary on his part, reportedly, assured the ministry would consider ways to simplify export procedures and also initiate steps accordingly.
The said meeting was also attended by Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Vice-President Mohammad Hatem and BGMEA Vice-President Miran Ali.
