The apex garment makers’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the University of Southern Denmark and Ahsan Ullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), in collaboration with the Danish Embassy, on Monday (30 November) launched a project to help the garment industry raise productivity.
The project (Network to Integrate Productivity and Occupational Safety and Health Improvements or NIPOSH), which will cover factories listed with the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and BGMEA, will train factory workers and mid-level managers and help increase the productivity of RMG factories by at least 15 per cent in only one and a half years, claimed media reports.
The launch of this initiative is the first stepping stone to our pledges to the industry to move it from a basic producer to a mature manufacturer…reportedly underlined the BGMEA President Dr. Rubana Huq, adding improvement in productivity is important to become more competitive in the global apparel business, during the virtual inauguration of the project.
Underlining that a lot of information has been collected so far and that they were analysing the same, the Project Leader, Professor Sarwar Morshed, reportedly underlined, ‘by implementing our guidelines, it is possible to increase productivity by at least 15 per cent’.
This will help to take us another step towards sustainable productivity, stated Sarwar Morshed.
As per reports, other activities of NIPOSH include training of workers, determining how much skill development is useful, imparting experience of one factory to another through networking and giving ideas about new innovations.
