The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh – the European buyers’ body formed after the Rana Plaza disaster to improve safety standards in the readymade garment manufacturing units in Bangladesh – on Sunday handed over the charge to RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) and wound up its operations in the country.
As per the agreement signed between the buyers’ body and the apex garment makers’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), it was decided that Accord would hand over responsibilities to RSC and leave Bangladesh by May.
An advocate of the country’s Supreme Court, Barrister Omar H. Khan on behalf of his client Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, via advertisements in various news dailies informed the concerned stakeholders of the buyers’ body’s departure from Bangladesh.
Keeping the same in consideration, Omar called upon all concerned – individuals, entities, non-government and government bodies to end all related formalities with the buyers’ representative, through the advertisement.
Now, after the departure of Accord, all its employees working in the Dhaka office will reportedly work under RSC.
