Coimbatore-based Silver Tex Engineers has tied up with a Japanese based company Teijin for manufacture of eco-friendly mattresses under the Fibbo brand. The company produced about 200 mattresses a day and this would be scaled up to 400 in three months. According to Silver Tex’s Managing Director P Muthiah, the raw material (polyester fibre) is imported from Teijin which is used in the making of fibre cushion.
It entered into an agreement with Teijin a year ago for raw material and technology. The raw material (high performance polyester fibre) was sourced from Japan and polyester cushion materials were made in Madurai. These were then made into mattresses here. The production capacity of the Madurai plant is 10 tonnes a day and the Coimbatore unit makes close to 200 mattresses every day. Besides mattresses, the cushion material can also be used in bedding, sofas and vehicle seats.
The company had invested Rs. 15 crore in its plants in Coimbatore and Madurai, while it plans to invest Rs. 10 crore each in Pune and New Delhi to set up new facilities this year. The Pune plant would be making acoustic material with the same raw material, while the New Delhi plant will make products for the automobile sector. Kenichiro Yabuki, Managing Director of Teijin India said that as of now it supplied the products to the Indian market from its manufacturing facilities in other countries.
