Even as Bangladesh Government has, reportedly, imposed some fresh restrictions to contain the rising number of coronavirus cases — the COVID-19 infection continued to remain above 5,000 for the second consecutive day on 30 March (Tuesday) in Bangladesh with the total infection reaching 6.05 lakh — fashion brands and retailers are apprehending adverse implications on business.
According to media reports, local brands and retailers have underlined that even as they are still struggling to bounce back, fresh restrictions will limit the upcoming festivities, thereby impacting their business.
The apprehensions of the brands and retailers do not seem unfounded considering the fact that after suffering significant loss last year, on account of the coronavirus pandemic, they had pinned all their expectations on Eid and Pahela Baishakh — the size of the local fashion market is, reportedly, over Taka 30,000 crore and Pahela Baishakh and Eid, reportedly, accounting for around 75 per cent of sales — to help make up for last year’s losses, to whatever extent possible.
Reports also added that the pandemic has already reduced people’s earnings significantly while also hitting hard the consumer spending on clothes, the fresh restrictions as imposed to prevent the spread of the pandemic, local fashion businesses underlined, will limit the upcoming festivities further.
