
Close on heels of reports of alleged anomalies by some e-commerce platforms, the Commerce Ministry is all set to review e-commerce business models of companies including names like Alesha Mart, Evaly and Dhamaka.
Media reports maintained this adding Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh declared that the ministry will review the business models of existing e-commerce platforms like Evaly, Dhamaka and Alesha Mart even as he underlined that companies that were not complying with the newly passed e-commerce guidelines will be sent show-cause letters and necessary actions will be taken against those who are defying the policies and it would be reviewed if their business models are compatible or not with the existing laws of the country.
Further, underlining that existing and upcoming e-commerce companies must obtain Business Identification Number (BIN) and have to go through registration at the Commerce Ministry, the Commerce Secretary maintained that e-commerce companies failing to get BIN number will have their sites shut down by BTRC even if entities operating through Facebook must also obtain BIN numbers.
