Indian garment manufacturer Orient Craft has finally made the move to automise its cutting room. The 30 year old company has installed 55 TUKAcad pattern making, grading and SMARTmark automatic marker making systems to develop all patterns digitally for the first time, and with remarkable results.
“We make specialized garments for Gap, Espirit, Ann Taylor, Tommy Hilfiger, M&S, Levi’s and many European brands, therefore getting a consistent fit is very important,” said Sahil Dhingra, Director OC. He further added, “We have many pattern masters working here who had no knowledge of computers. Looking at a 50-year old pattern master, who starts making patterns on the second day on a CAD system with more productivity and better quality patterns than he had done manually, is truly remarkable. The TukaTech systems, training, pre-engineering and implementation are truly professional.”
Nidhi Dutta, EVP, talking about the need to automise, shared “We make millions of garments and thousands of styles, and so need faster sample approvals as demand for more styles continues to grow. We are glad to replace all our old systems with TUKAcad. We are now producing twice as many patterns with 40% less pattern makers, the quality of patterns has improved and the results are fantastic. Also, the time, material and personnel savings had the quickest payback.”
