Bangladesh is seeking a new wave of Chinese joint venture investment to revive non-operational textile units in an effort to accelerate commercial returns and strengthen the country’s industrial base. The call was made by Md Khorshed Alam, President of the Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI), during a meeting with leaders of the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB) on 25th November 2025.
Khorshed Alam said that restoring dormant textile facilities would be more commercially viable than establishing entirely new units, noting that many factories with existing infrastructure could be returned to operation with targeted investment. He added that the BCCCI was prepared to support CEAB member companies with facilitation measures, including assistance in expediting Special Branch clearance procedures within the existing legal framework.
Han Kun, President of CEAB, outlined several areas where deeper bilateral collaboration could be expanded, including infrastructure development, Government-to-Government projects, power generation, renewable energy, and the trade of construction materials. He said that China remained committed to enhancing economic cooperation with Bangladesh and emphasised that coordinated engagement between BCCCI and CEAB would help address challenges, recommend policy improvements, and resolve pending issues more effectively.
Other attendees included AZM Azizur Rahman, Senior Vice-President of BCCCI; Mike Ge, President of the CEAB Textile and Garments Branch; Tao Tao, Marketing Director of the CEAB Bangladesh Branch; Ma Rui, Vice-President of CEAB; and Zhou Meimei, Secretary of CEAB.
