Indian home furnishing company Skanthaguru Exports to focus on exports exclusively. Currently, the home textile supplier has 40 per cent business with the domestic market. However, it now aims to become a 100 per cent EOU (Export Oriented Unit). To achieve this target, the company is participating more at international trade shows worldwide.
It has been observed lately that most of the apparel and home furnishing manufacturers are dealing more with the domestic market as the latter is growing and giving better returns. Also, international markets like EU and US are still sluggish. Therefore, Skanthaguru Exports’ decision to become an EOU will be an interesting watch.
KR Karuppanchetty, ED of the company and a textile graduate told Apparel Resources, “We have our own manufacturing unit and a better understanding of dyes & chemicals. Also, sustainable products are our strength. So, there’s no reason that we can’t grow in exports. Currently, we export to Europe, Germany and Australia. Our target is to enter the US market. We recently participated at Heimtextil India and will also exhibit at Heimtextil Frankfurt to get more international buyers. We are open to working with all kinds of buyers, be it wholesalers or retailers.”
The home furnishing manufacturer is also in process to get SA8000 certification. Also, with an investment of around Rs. 6 crore, Skanthaguru Exports will move into a unit in the coming year.
