There are very few sweater manufacturers and exporters in Delhi-NCR, and one of them is SD Enterprises, having its factory in Okhla. The company has 11 flat knitting machines, and with the capacity of 30,000 pieces of sweaters (high fashion) per month, is expanding by adding 4 more machines, with an investment of Rs. 1 crore. The process will be completed in 3 months. “It’s like an expansion as well as technical upgradation for us as we constantly want to control our cost and bring more innovation in our products. That’s why we are going for Japanese machines. Use of latest available machines will reduce at least 4 to 5 per cent cost, which matters a lot with regard to price pressure. It is also beneficial when it comes to labour cost, productivity and product innovations. Even when we don’t have enough orders to run all the machines, we still run our new machines to ensure lesser breakdowns,” shared Vineet Sood, Proprietor of the DISHA certified company having 75 per cent share in the US and 25 per cent in European market, who despite not being happy with the market, has installed 5 flat knitting machines last year for the same reasons.
Having specialization in kids sweaters, SD Enterprises, which offers accessories as well as pet apparels, has average FOB of US $ 5.5 for its products. Being located in Delhi, the company has a definite edge as some buying houses prefer to work with them rather than Ludhiana-based companies. “Rather than just to follow products of few top brands, we play with various kinds of yarn like 100 per cent cotton, 100 per cent acrylic, 100 per cent wool and blends of these, and much more to create more innovative products,” concluded Vineet.
