The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently organised an event to commemorate the first death anniversary of its former President and Dhaka north city’s late mayor Annisul Huq.
Organised at the BGMEA Auditorium in capital Dhaka recently, business leaders recalled the contributions of Annisul Huq to the country’s business sector and the society at large.
It may be mentioned here that Annisul Huq led an eventful life in which his career took off as a television presenter and evolved into that of a successful businessman. His business interest spanned over readymade garments to power, information technology, real estate and agro-based industry. He also served as the President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association in 2005 and 2006.
Annisul Huq, who was also the President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, became the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation in 2015.
He passed away at a London hospital on November 30, 2017, at the age of 65 after suffering from a disease that reportedly attacked his nervous system.
Presided by BGMEA President Md Siddiqur Rahman and moderated by BGMEA Vice-President Mohammed Nasir, the event was attended by Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, former FBCCI President AK Azad, former BGMEA Presidents Anisur Rahman Sinha, Md Atiqul Islam and Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez, Annisul Huq’s widow Rubana Huq, his younger brother, former chief of Army Staff Gen Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, BGMEA Vice-President SM Mannan Kochi amongst many others.
